Yoga is all things to all people.....
WHAT?
'Yoga' is derived from the Sanskrit root word 'yuk' meaning 'union' or 'yoke'.
It implies harmony and balance between all aspects of creation and within
ourselves.
It inclues Asanas (body postures), Pranayama (control of vital energy through
breath control) and Deep Relaxation to reduce stress and build self-confidence.
WHO?
Anyone can practise yoga, from any age. Less able people can practise yoga with
modifications to suit their needs and abilities. The elderly person is
sometimes limited by their physical capabilities, but with modifications and
help, yoga is of great benefit to them and an enjoyable social event.
BENEFITS?
People who practise yoga, benefit by feeling better physically and mentally.
Yoga works on the whole person, it creates suppleness, strength and stamina.
Regular practise of yoga offers the opportunity to improve the efficency and
vitality of all the systems of the body and so improving the whole metabolism
and communication between the mind and body.
Its stretches and tones the muscles, keeping them healthy and supple. Also by
balancing the body it helps the person to be the weight that he/she should be.
It works on the inner organs and endrocrine system, which strengthens the
immune system and so the student is less prone to illness.
